06 Iqualuit - Kangerlussuaq
17. Aug 2006
After a good breakfast it was back to the airport. Time passed, going to the immigration, filing flight plan etc., and we had to taxi to the fuel station to get fuel. It turned out, that fuel only was available in drums, so we ended up leaving fuel behind.
We also got the oxygen container filled, as we had used of it coming from Canada.
By the time we again had donned our survival suits, and were ready for departure, we got the message from the tower, that Kangerlusuaq would be closed, by the time we would get there, and the fee for waiting for us would be about us 600 $.
After a short consideration, we decided to get going, and soon after we were on our way. Climbing to our desired Flight Level 130, we picked up some ice on the wings, so we kept a close lookout for an excessive layer.
As long as we maintained normal cruising speed I did not see it as a major problem, as we had positive temperatures in 5000 feet, we could at any time descend and loose the ice.
Coming into Kangerlussuaq it was fine VFR conditions, and after landing and a short immigration process it was off to the hotel – a short walk from the airport.
