78 Amboseli - Kilaguni
5. Mar 2010
I got up by the crack of dawn to go on a 2 hour safari in the Amboseli National Park. The good thing about staying inside the national park is, that all the animals are very close.
I saw many elephants, hippopotamus, ostriches, and more. And too many I do not know the name of.
After lunch, I headed back to the airfield, to fly to my next stop, Kilaguni inside another national park, Tsavo West. Much to my relieve, all tires on the plane were intact! Calling potential traffic on 118.0, I took off and flew westward.
Enroute I saw Giraffes again.
After circling the lodge in Kilaguni, I landed on runway 01 – part of it sealed, enough for me to land on and to stop, before getting to the end of the runway, where a couple of Zebras walked about.
There was nobody around, so I backtracked the runway, and taxied to the right, down a sandy runway 12, passing a dirt road and on to the far end, where the entrance to the lodge was. The Serena Lodge is the oldest existing lodge inside a national park!
After checking in, I went to my room and from the terrace, I had the most fantastic view ever! A waterhole some 200 meters away, a dramatic scenery of the Ngulia Hills in the distance, and plenty of wildlife in view: Ostriches, Zebras, baboons and more.
I think I will stay an extra night here?
